This was definitely a high octane thriller. By the end you still weren’t quite sure how much was fact and how much was fiction, but it is certainly an enjoyable read. The chapters did try to make it clear whether they referred to the past or the present, but it could still be a bit confusing. Those who know a lot about motor racing, or the legal system, will probably get the most out of the story.
Chequered justice was a great book and a massive injustice. Maybe David Icke has a point. We are all being controlled. By a force beyond our control.
I was recommended this book from a friend who does not read just ANY book!! It was an absolute mind opener, especially to those individuals who really do think they know it all. This author gives such clear accounts and to me personally, this “so called story ” seems very real indeed, and it almost seems as it were that one almost has to pretend its made up! A very surreal read, the author has a great sense of humour, and I found myself feeling and sharing almost the emotions of a particular character in this “so called story”. I found it very difficult to put the book down and I was drawing to the end of the book, I even began to want to slow down as I was a little frightened that the end wouldn’t actually be, what I personally would have liked it to be.
An absolute must, if one has any space left in their minds to learn and educate themselves that little bit more. I notice the author has written a second book which I WILL be reading in due course. Well done to the John Bartlett’s to this corrupted world that we are so much a part of, for keeping me absolutely captivated, from start to finish!!!
It is certainly a book which will hold your attention and keep you engaged. Great value and recommended. What is fact and what is fiction? Either way it is an entertaining read.

Chequered Justice: Very occasionally a book comes along that is hard to put down, and this is one of those. It’s really a true story masquerading as a fiction, and that’s what gives it its raw emotional power: it seems these very shocking events really happened to the author. The story isn’t shocking because it’s violent – as too many thrillers often are – but because emotional impact of the Kafkaesque web of injustice in which the narrator and his family are trapped. If all this is true – as it appears to be – it’s very scarey, much more so than if it was just imagined. The story is compulsive for the simple, obvious reason you really want to know what happened next, and how these bad things can be put right, if they ever can. I spent the whole day reading it for just that reason. (I also know a lot more about motor racing now than I did before!)
Chequered Justice: I purchased this book after reading the other reviews and was not dissapointed. It is a well written and an unusual story which I found very entertaining as well as a little thought provoking. You gather from the book that it is based on actual events and if this is true then I feel very sorry for the main character. The driving descriptions are good and I especially enjoyed the Brands Hatch bits as I live near to Brands and have been there many times and been round it a few times. Read this book!

Chequered Justice: I wouldn’t normally write a review, but having just finished the book I felt compelled to recommend this to others.
To have survived, let alone to have articulately written about the experience, is amazing. To turn it into a first rate thriller, that captivates the mind and demands that you stay up late into the night to chase chapter after chapter is a credit to the author.
Read this great book – if you like a thriller, if you like motor-racing, if you like legal novels or just if you want to learn more about the UK’s legal process and all that can go wrong, even when you are INNOCENT. Thank you John Bartlett for publishing this extra-ordinary tale. I hope the public reaction goes some way to help you rebuild your life and get recognition for your innocence.

Thank you for perservering and for telling your story; I can’t wait to read Mary’s (Beth’s) version of events when published!
I picked up this eBook after meeting the author at a book signing in Costco, Reading before Christmas. I was dubious, not being overly familiar with the British judicial system, however, as a huge fan of American crime drama (Law & Order, NCIS, Suits, etc.) thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed.
It was a fast read and did well not to get too bogged down with legal jargon. The descriptions of the venues, from the Old Granary to Wandsworth to Ford were vivid and set my imagination firmly within the locations, with all the empathetic pangs I’d expect from a gripping novel.
Additionally, the book was fairly well edited; I found only a handful of grammatical and editorial mistakes; not too many to cause the pedant in me to disrupt my enjoyment of the tale. Most notably, the repetition of the entire second paragraph of chapter 8 caused the most angst, but only for a moment.
If you like John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell, Tom Clancy, get ready to add John Bartlett to that list!
Dark Horse: Interesting prequel to Chequered Justice. 07 January 2013
A fascinating read concerning the life of an intelligent young boy born dyslexic, in a time when this condition was not recognised. His consequent academic failure and treatment at school drove him to seek personal achievement and recognition in business, and later, on the world stage in motor sport. It takes you though the thrills and disasters from Brands Hatch to Le Mans, and the pitfalls and deceptions encountered in the race to have the cars ready in time, as detailed in John’s first novel Chequered Justice.
I look forward with anticipation to reading “A Step To Far”.
